Skills Rescuing chimp and gorilla wildlife poaching victims
After a month in Cameroon I thought I knew what to expect, arriving at Ape Action Africa run Mefou Primate (sanctuary) Park, the reality of victims of the poaching and illegal wildlife trade hit me in the face. As one of their staff uttered, “Each time we receive an orphan chimp or gorilla we are making a 55-year commitment.” AAA cares for hundreds of chimps, western lowland gorillas and drills that are the orphan victims of the bushmeat and illegal wildlife trade in Cameroon. With the expansion of logging, palm oil plantations and continued commercial bushmeat the flood of orphans coming to the park will not slow anytime soon.
