BORNEO — Orangutan Orphanage Overflowing

Yayasan International Animal Rescue (IAR) orangutan rescue center in Ketapang West Kalimantan Borneo Indonesia runs a fight against all odds. Founded by Dr Karmele Llano Sanchez, she and her staff fight the battle to save wild orang-utans on the frontline of conservation. Far away from the conferences and UN meetings and board rooms of corporate conservation, here in the trenches saving wild orang-utans is a daily heart-wrenching struggle. My first visit to the center in October 2015 was in the middle of the worst fire season on record in Borneo and the staff was barely surviving the insanity of rescuing wild orang-utans from infants to majestic flanged males.
