Apes Like Us: New Youtube Channel
I am super excited to announce we are finally nearing lunch of the new YouTube show Apes Like Us is not your normal nature show. There has never been a show like Apes Like Us. It’s a globe-trekking journey to explore everything we see, hear, touch and taste (share) with Apes Like Us — gorillas, bonobos, orangutans and chimpanzees. Together we are ALL great apes, and this is the only show about US.
Apes Like Us is part adventure, part travel, part science — with super cool, really smart people — part current events, part crime drama, And all spiced up with sex, lies and politics. Every episode of Apes Like Us is packed with curiosity and questions As we try, with the help of amazing guests, researchers and those trying to save great apes, unravel the twisted strand of DNA that we all share.
Filming began in January 2016 in Cameroon, Rwanda, India and Borneo on a six-episode pilot for a new YouTube channel program called “Apes Like Us” – which will touch on many of the themes host Gerry Ellis has been researching over the past four years as part of the Great Apes 2020 project, sponsored by GLOBIO.
We believe the global cross-cultural appeal of great apes can be harnessed to create greater awareness and interest by the public, especially a younger YouTube generation, in the magic of great apes. This audience is also most engaged in conservation and social concerns, thus a perfect global demographic regarding the plight of great apes and the need for action to ensure their survival. Apes Like Us also creates a platform enabling engagement in a time-sensitive, opportune and entertaining way simply not available through most other vehicles.
We chose YouTube for distribution over other platforms because it connects to a global audience independent of browsers and devices: YouTube video content is viewed 35 billion times a day. Content also has active archival repeatability, making Apes Like Us content valuable in education and life-long learning long after our initial broadcast. If you haven’t seen it please check out the video above and subscribe. We have a lot of work to do, but I really think this will be an visually incredible way to share with you everything I have been learning and doing through Great Apes 2020 over the past few years.
The premier episode of Apes Like Us is scheduled to launch Earth Month April 2017
